Scarves seem to be all the rage, once used as a tool to stay warm, they became less popular with the introduction of the "neck warmer" which is much more practical. Then one day someone, an "indie rocker" no doubt, woke up and decided I need something to string around my puny little neck. With that thought, he grabbed his mothers pantyhose and looped over his narrow shoulders. Not so quickly was this concept adopted by the main stream.
At first and by first I mean the second coming of the modern scarf era circa 2005, the fellow with the panty hose "necklace" was subject to much ridicule from his peers. Though perfectly used to being insulted by the "popular kids" the indie rocker sought to make the scarf a little more trendy and began adding to it.
The modern scarf now sees many different styles: checkered, fraid cloth, soccer, wool, mitten matcher, and of course the one on the brink of the scarf apocalypse "the blanket scarf." The blanket scarf is thick in texture. I was not aware of such a scarf until I saw "the picture" which has now been changed, of a boy wanting to become the next Much VJ. The picture had the boy in a scarf of such grandeur it reminded me not of my mother's pantyhose but of one of my grandmother's hand knitted quilts. The scarf or blanket as it resembles most was draped around the boys neck in a ridiculous manner and it made me somewhat disturbed, so much so I'm now writing my first blog about it.
Fashion as with music builds and builds and builds until it collapses. The grandeur of this boys scarf plays testament to the coming scarf apocalypse, say goodbye Jonas Brothers, skinny boys who use them to take attention away from their protruding spines, and of course indie rockers (they stopped wearing them when everyone else started though). The only true scarf wearers will survive this fashion genocide: old ladies and soccer fans.
Thank you for reading and tune in next week for more obscure commentary on stuff people don't care about.
